Nomenclatural History	The species Methanococcus thermolithotrophicus was originally described by Huber et al. 1982. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 14 in 1984. In 2001, Whitman established Methanococcus thermolithotrophicus as the basonym of Methanothermococcus thermolithotrophicus (Huber et al. 1984) Whitman 2002 .
