Nomenclatural History
The genus Methylobacterium was originally proposed by Patt et al. 1976. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Green and Bousfield published an emended description of this genus in 1983. Subsequent emendations were proposed by Green and Ardley in 2018 and Alessa et al. in 2021. Bousfield and Green transferred the members of Urakami and Komagata 1984 into this genus in 1985.
