The species Methylobacterium thiocyanatum was originally described by Wood et al. 1998. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 69 in 1999. In 2018, Green and Ardley established as the basonym of (Wood et al. 1999) Green and Ardley 2018 .
