The species Burkholderia kururiensis was originally described and validly published by Zhang et al. 2000. In 2009, Anandham et al. reduced this species to the rank of subspecies to form
Burkholderia kururiensis kururiensis (Zhang et al. 2000) Anandham et al. 2009
. In 2014, Sawana et al. established Burkholderia kururiensis as the basonym of
Paraburkholderia kururiensis (Zhang et al. 2000) Sawana et al. 2015
