The genus Wautersia was originally proposed and validly published by Vaneechoutte et al. 2004. Vandamme and Coenye established this name as a later heterotypic synonym of
Cupriavidus Makkar and Casida 1987 emend. Vandamme and Coenye 2004
in 2004.
