The species Alcaligenes ruhlandii was originally described by Aragno and Schlegel 1977. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. In 1998, Yabuuchi et al. established as the basonym of (Packer and Vishniac 1955) Yabuuchi et al. 1998 emend. Vandamme et al. 2013 .
