The species Caenibacterium thermophilum was originally described and validly published by Manaia et al. 2003. Lüke-Eversloh et al. established this name as a later heterotypic synonym of Elbanna et al. 2003 emend. Lüke-Eversloh et al. 2004 in 2004.
