The species Hylemonella gracilis was originally described and validly published by Spring et al. 2004. Spring et al. formed this name in 2004 by placing the species
Aquaspirillum gracile (Canale-Parola et al. 1966) Hylemon et al. 1973 (Approved Lists 1980)
into the genus Hylemonella Spring et al. 2004.
