Nomenclatural History
The genus Sphaerotilus was originally proposed by Kützing 1833. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Mulder and Van Veen published an emended description of this genus in 1974. A subsequent emendation was proposed by Gridneva et al. in 2011.
