Nomenclatural History
The species Thiobacillus acidophilus was originally described by Guay and Silver 1975. It pre-dated the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names but was excluded from those lists. In 1983 the name was revived and validly published by Harrison. In 1998, Hiraishi et al. established as the basonym of (Harrison 1983) Hiraishi et al. 1998 .
