The species Thiobacillus aquaesulis was originally described by Wood and Kelly 1988. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 53 in 1995. In 2017, Boden et al. established Thiobacillus aquaesulis as the basonym of
Annwoodia aquaesulis (Wood and Kelly 1995) Boden et al. 2017
.
