The species Thiobacillus caldus was originally described by Hallberg and Lindström 1994. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 54 in 1995. In 2000, Kelly and Wood established Thiobacillus caldus as the basonym of
Acidithiobacillus caldus (Hallberg and Lindström 1995) Kelly and Wood 2000
.
