Nomenclatural History
This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 31 in 1989. The species Thiobacillus denitrificans was originally described by Beijerinck 1904. It pre-dated the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names but was excluded from those lists. In 1989 the name was revived by Kelly and Harrison. Kelly and Wood published an emended description of this species in 2000.
