The species Thiobacillus halophilus was originally described by Wood and Kelly 1991. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 53 in 1995. In 2000, Kelly and Wood established Thiobacillus halophilus as the basonym of
Halothiobacillus halophilus (Wood and Kelly 1995) Kelly and Wood 2000
.
