The species Thiobacillus hydrothermalis was originally described by Durand et al. 1993. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 60 in 1997. In 2000, Kelly and Wood established Thiobacillus hydrothermalis as the basonym of
Halothiobacillus hydrothermalis (Durand et al. 1997) Kelly and Wood 2000
.
