The species Thiobacillus hydrothermalis was originally described by Durand et al. 1993. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 60 in 1997. In 2000, Kelly and Wood established as the basonym of (Durand et al. 1997) Kelly and Wood 2000 .
