The species Thiobacillus perometabolis was originally described by London and Rittenberg 1967. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Katayama-Fujimura and Kuraishi published an emended description of this species in 1983. In 1997, Moreira and Amils established as the basonym of (London and Rittenberg 1967) Moreira and Amils 1997 .
