The species Thiobacillus thyasiris was originally described by Wood and Kelly 1989. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 53 in 1995. In 1993, Wood and Kelly established Thiobacillus thyasiris as the basonym of
Thiomicrospira thyasirae (Wood and Kelly 1995) Wood and Kelly 1995 emend. Boden et al. 2017
