The species Neisseria weaveri was originally described and validly published by Holmes et al. 1993. Yi and Chun published an emended description of this species in 2015. Yi and Chun established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of Andersen et al. 1993 non Neisseria weaveri Holmes et al. 1993 in 2015.
