The species Aquaspirillum giesbergeri was originally described by Hylemon et al. 1973. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. In 2006, Grabovich et al. established as the basonym of (Williams and Rittenberg 1957) Grabovich et al. 2006 .
