Nomenclatural History

The species Methanogenium frittonii was originally described by Harris et al. 1984. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 57 in 1996. Spring et al. established this name as a later heterotypic synonym of
Methanoculleus thermophilus corrig. (Rivard and Smith 1982) Maestrojuán et al. 1990 emend. Spring et al. 2005
in 2005.
