The species Chromobacterium fluviatile was originally described by Moss et al. 1978. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 6 in 1981. In 1989, Logan established Chromobacterium fluviatile as the basonym of
Iodobacter fluviatilis corrig. (Moss et al. 1981) Logan 1989
