Nomenclatural History
The genus Spirillum was originally proposed by Ehrenberg 1832. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Krieg published an emended description of this genus in 1974. Subsequent emendations were proposed by Podkopaeva et al. in 2006 and Podkopaeva et al. in 2009.
