The species Azoarcus buckelii was originally described by Mechichi et al. 2002. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 87 in 2002. This name was affected by Judicial Opinion 81 in 2008. In 2019, Rabus et al. established as the basonym of (Mechichi et al. 2002) Rabus et al. 2019 .
