The species Propionivibrio pelophilus was originally described and validly published by Brune et al. 2002. This name was affected by Judicial Opinion 81 in 2008. Brune et al. formed this name in 2002 by placing the species
Propionibacter pelophilus Meijer et al. 1999
into the genus Propionivibrio Tanaka et al. 1991 emend. Brune et al. 2002.
