Nomenclatural History
The family Chromatiaceae was originally proposed by Bavendamm 1924. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Imhoff published an emended description of this family in 1984. A subsequent emendation was proposed by Sisinthy et al. in 2017. Pfennig and Trüper transferred the members of Bavendamm 1924 (Approved Lists 1980) into this family in 1971.
