Nomenclatural History
The genus Halorhodospira was originally proposed by Imhoff and Süling 1996. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 62 in 1997. Hirschler-Réa et al. published an emended description of this genus in 2003. A subsequent emendation was proposed by Imhoff et al. in 2022.
