Nomenclatural History
The genus Methanospirillum was originally proposed by Ferry et al. 1974. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Iino et al. published an emended description of this genus in 2010. A subsequent emendation was proposed by Zhou et al. in 2014.
