The species Halothiobacillus halophilus was originally described and validly published by Kelly and Wood 2000. Kelly and Wood formed this name in 2000 by placing the species Wood and Kelly 1995 into the genus Kelly and Wood 2000 emend. Boden 2017. In 2017, Boden established as the basonym of (Wood and Kelly 1995) Boden 2017 .
