Nomenclatural History

The family Incertae sedis 1 was originally proposed by Garrity et al. 2007. Zhilina et al. replaced this illegitimate name with
Methanocalculaceae Zhilina et al. 2014
in 2013.
"Incertae sedis" ("of uncertain placement") are placeholders and should not be considered to be formal names.
