The species Xanthomonas hortorum was originally described and validly published by Vauterin et al. 1995. Morinière et al. published an emended description of this species in 2020. Morinière et al. established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of Trébaol et al. 2000 emend. Timilsina et al. 2019 in 2020.
