The species Stenotrophomonas africana was originally described and validly published by Drancourt et al. 1997. Coenye et al. established this name as a later heterotypic synonym of
Stenotrophomonas maltophilia (Hugh 1981) Palleroni and Bradbury 1993
in 2004.
