Francisella tularensis novicida (Olsufiev et al. 1959) Hollis et al. 2010 emend. Sjöstedt 2005
Nomenclatural History
The subspecies Francisella tularensis novicida was originally described by Hollis et al. 1989. This name was validly published by Huber et al. 2010. Sjöstedt published an emended description of this subspecies in 2005. In 2005, Sjöstedt reduced Olsufiev et al. 1959 (Approved Lists 1980) to the rank of subspecies.

Francisella novicida (Larson et al. 1955) Olsufiev et al. 1959. In several publications, including the chapter on Francisella in the second edition of Bergey's Manual of Systematic Bacteriology (Sjöstedt 2005), F. novicida is referred to as Francisella tularensis subsp. novicida (Sjöstedt 2005). At the time, this name was not formally correct; although Sjöstedt (2005) proposed the transfer of this species to F. tularensis as the subspecies 'F. tularensis subsp. novicida', this name was not validly published until 2010.
