Nomenclatural History
The species Methanosarcina frisia was originally described and validly published by Blotevogel and Fischer 1989. Blotevogel and Fischer formed this name in 1989 by placing the species Blotevogel et al. 1986 into the genus Kluyver and van Niel 1936 (Approved Lists 1980) emend. Ni et al. 1994. Maestrojuán et al. established this name as a later heterotypic synonym of (Barker 1936) Mah and Kuhn 1984 in 1992.
