Nomenclatural History
The species Methanosarcina siciliae was originally described and validly published by Ni et al. 1994. Elberson and Sowers published an emended description of this species in 1997. Ni et al. formed this name in 1994 by placing the species Stetter and König 1989 emend. Ni and Boone 1991 into the genus Kluyver and van Niel 1936 (Approved Lists 1980) emend. Ni et al. 1994.
