Nomenclatural History

The species Legionella pittsburghensis was originally described by Pasculle et al. 1980. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 5 in 1980. List Editor established Legionella pittsburghensis as a later homotypic synonym of
Legionella micdadei Hébert et al. 1980
in 1980.
This name is illegitimate because it contravenes Rule 51b (2) (it does not use the earliest legitimate specific epithet "micdadei" (from Tatlockia micdadei).
