Nomenclatural History

The species Methylococcus bovis was originally described by Romanovskaya et al. 1978. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 7 in 1981. Bowman et al. established this name as a later heterotypic synonym of
Methylococcus luteus Romanovskaya et al. 1981
in 1993.
