Nomenclatural History
The species Methylococcus luteus was originally described by Romanovskaya et al. 1978. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 7 in 1981. Bowman et al. established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of Romanovskaya et al. 1981 in 1993. In 1993, Bowman et al. established as the basonym of (Romanovskaya et al. 1981) Bowman et al. 1993 .
