into the genus Methylomicrobium Bowman et al. 1995 emend. Orata et al. 2018. In 2018, Orata et al. established Methylomicrobium pelagicum as the basonym of
Methylotuvimicrobium pelagicum (Sieburth et al. 1988) Orata et al. 2018
