Nomenclatural History	The species Oceanospirillum commune was originally described by Bowditch et al. 1984. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 16 in 1984. Garrity et al. formed this name in 2007 by placing the species Alteromonas communis Baumann et al. 1972 (Approved Lists 1980) into the genus Oceanospirillum Hylemon et al. 1973 (Approved Lists 1980) emend. Satomi et al. 2002.
