The species Oceanospirillum kriegii was originally described by Bowditch et al. 1984. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 16 in 1984. In 2002, Satomi et al. established as the basonym of (Bowditch et al. 1984) Satomi et al. 2002 .
