The species Marinomonas vaga was originally described by van Landschoot and De Ley 1983. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 13 in 1984. van Landschoot and De Ley established as an earlier homotypic synonym of (Baumann et al. 1972) Bowditch et al. 1984 pro synon. Marinomonas vaga (Baumann et al. 1972) van Landschoot and De Ley 1984 in 1983. van Landschoot and De Ley formed this name in 1983 by placing the species Baumann et al. 1972 (Approved Lists 1980) into the genus van Landschoot and De Ley 1984 emend. Espinosa et al. 2010.
