The species Halomonas canadensis was originally described by Huval et al. 1995. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 59 in 1996. In 2001, Arahal et al. established Halomonas canadensis as the basonym of
Chromohalobacter canadensis (Huval et al. 1996) Arahal et al. 2001
.
