The subspecies Pseudomonas avenae citrulli was originally described and validly published by Hu et al. 1991. Hu et al. formed this name in 1991 by placing the subspecies
Pseudomonas pseudoalcaligenes citrulli Schaad et al. 1978 (Approved Lists 1980)
into the species Pseudomonas avenae Manns 1909 (Approved Lists 1980). In 1992, Willems et al. established Pseudomonas avenae citrulli as the basonym of
Acidovorax avenae citrulli (Schaad et al. 1978) Willems et al. 1992
