The species Pseudomonas caryophylli was originally described by Starr and Burkholder 1942. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. In 1992, Yabuuchi et al. established as the basonym of (Burkholder 1942) Yabuuchi et al. 1993 .
