Nomenclatural History
The species Halobacterium salinarum was originally described by Elazari-Volcani 1957. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Ventosa and Oren corrected this name from (sic) to . Gruber et al. published an emended description of this species in 2004. Ventosa and Oren established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of (Lochhead 1934) Elazari-Volcani 1957 (Approved Lists 1980) in 1996. Minegishi et al. established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of Yachai et al. 2008 in 2012.
