Nomenclatural History	The species Halobacterium mediterranei was originally described by Rodriguez-Valera et al. 1983. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 12 in 1983. In 1986, Torreblanca et al. established Halobacterium mediterranei as the basonym of Haloferax mediterranei (Rodriguez-Valera et al. 1983) Torreblanca et al. 1987 .
