Nomenclatural History
The genus Alteromonas was originally proposed by Baumann et al. 1972. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Novick and Tyler published an emended description of this genus in 1985. Subsequent emendations were proposed by Gauthier et al. in 1995, Van Trappen et al. in 2004, Barbeyron et al. in 2019 and Zhang et al. in 2019. Gago et al. established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of Jeon et al. 2005 in 2021. Gago et al. transferred the members of Jeon et al. 2005 into this genus in 2021.
