The species Alteromonas distincta was originally described by Romanenko et al. 1995. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 55 in 1995. In 2000, Ivanova et al. established as the basonym of (Romanenko et al. 1995) Ivanova et al. 2000 emend. Nedashkovkaya et al. 2021 .
