Nomenclatural History
The species Alteromonas fuliginea was originally described by Romanenko et al. 1994. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 55 in 1995. Ivanova et al. established this name as a later heterotypic synonym of (Gauthier 1977) Gauthier et al. 1995 emend. Ivanova et al. 1998 in 1998. In 2016, Machado et al. established as the basonym of (Romanenko et al. 1995) Machado et al. 2016 .
