The species Alteromonas hanedai was originally described by Jensen et al. 1980. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 7 in 1981. In 1985, MacDonell and Colwell established Alteromonas hanedai as the basonym of
Shewanella hanedai (Jensen et al. 1981) MacDonell and Colwell 1986 emend. Cao et al. 2021
